MEDA

The primary focus of the Mustang Economic Development Authority (MEDA) is to provide a vehicle for financing of non-retail commercial and industrial growth in Mustang. MEDA's first major project involved funding for a nursing home in Mustang. Interestingly, that nursing home has been renovated and is now part of the Mustang Public School system.

MEDA was also involved in facilitating financing for the Industrial Gasket plant on S. Sara Road. In this case, the MEDA trust was used as a conduit for funding from the Oklahoma Industrial Financing Authority (OIFA).

The MEDA Trust was created in 1982. It was originally named the Mustang Industrial Development Authority. Its purposes as stated in the trust are:

To facilitate funding for commercial and industrial projects
To promote the City of Mustang to industrial, cultural and commercial developers
To hold, maintain and administer any leasehold rights on properties demised to the Trustees
To acquire property that may be useful in promoting industrial and commercial growth in the City of Mustang
To provide funds for constructing, installing, equipping, repairing, remodeling, improving, extending, enlarging, maintaining, operating, administering and disposing of physical properties and facilities in line with these goals.

There are five trustees who serve on the MEDA board. Trustees must live within the city limits and serve for five-year terms. The MEDA board meets on the third Monday of each month in the City Council chambers.
