The City of Mustang provides a " Spotlight Employee" each month so that citizens can learn more about the public servants that contribute to our City running smoothly. The Spotlight Employee will feature answers to a series of questions about the selected employee, the department and position they serve in, and unique likes and interests of the employee.
The October 2025 Employee Spotlight is Ginger Williams, Recreation Center Manager.
For more than a decade, Ginger Williams has been a beloved part of the City of Mustang team, known by many simply as “Gran.” Her warmth, humor, and dedication have made her a cornerstone of the community she has called home for most of her life.
Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Ginger lived in Mustang for over 30 years before recently moving to McLoud — a change she jokes came after her “spoiled daughter” Sara convinced her to live closer. Family has always been at the center of Ginger’s life. She and her husband, Billy, have been happily married for more than 40 years, raising their daughter together and now enjoying the joys of grandchildren.
Her seven grandchildren — Dylan, Iona, Connor, Kinley, KJ, Callen, and Kais (affectionately nicknamed “Rooster”) — are the pride of her life. “They truly make my world spin,” Ginger shares with a smile.
When asked about her favorite part of working for the City of Mustang, Ginger doesn’t hesitate: it’s the people. “From babies to seniors, so many have become more than just acquaintances — they’ve become family. I get to spend each day surrounded by people I consider not just friends, but another family.”
Over the years, Ginger has helped bring many special projects and events to the community. Among her favorites are helping host the Thunder basketball camp and the Mustang Granny Basketball Tournament. The Granny Tournament, which raises money for suicide prevention and other nonprofit causes, has not only made a difference for those in need but also created lifelong friendships. “Obviously, you can tell I have a soft side for basketball,” she laughs.
Outside of work, Ginger loves good Mexican food — even if the rice sometimes gives her trouble. Her musical tastes run deep into Oklahoma’s country roots, with favorites like Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Brooks & Dunn, and Garth Brooks. “If I had to pick, I’d say it’s probably a tie between Reba and Garth,” she admits.
When it comes to her proudest moments, Ginger doesn’t point to just one. Instead, she beams with pride as she talks about her grandchildren’s many accomplishments — from winning livestock shows at the Oklahoma Youth Expo and the Tulsa State Fair, to earning college judging scholarships, achieving state championships in wrestling, building careers, and even starting families of their own. “It’s truly hard to pick just one proudest moment, because in reality, my grandbabies make me the proudest.”
With more than 10 years of service, a deep love for her family, and an unwavering commitment to her community, Ginger “Gran” Williams embodies the very best of Mustang. Her legacy of kindness, hard work, and community spirit continues to shine through every event, every project, and every life she touches.
