At Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, Mustang Library Youth Service Instructor Sheila Barnard received the Non-Uniformed Employee of the Year award from the Mustang American Legion Post #353. Sheila created a year-round Teen Volunteer Program. The volunteers help at each program the library offers. She is helping teens prepare for the workforce by teaching them about job readiness. This program is a well-oiled machine. The teens know expectations and need little direction once trained.
Sheila definitely dreams big and pushes us to help these dreams become a reality. Our newish Teen Space came about because of Sheila. She was adamant that teens needed a space of their own in the library to feel comfortable in and she was correct. Our Teen Space is often filled with teens hanging out, studying, reading, playing games, using computers, etc. Sheila is also the social media content coordinator for the Library. Congratulations!!

At Tuesday evening's City Council meeting, the Mustang American Legion Post #353 presented three awards to employees of the City of Mustang - a Police Officer, a Firefighter, and a Non-Uniformed Employee. We will be highlighting each over the next three days beginning with the Outstanding Police Officer - Sergeant Maurice Hawkins. Sgt. Hawkins has been employed with the City of Mustang Police Department for 4 years and prior to coming to Mustang was employed by the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office as a Deputy. Maurice is a certified hostage negotiator through the FBI and serves on the Canadian County Special Operations team in that capacity. Along with his public service, Maurice has a strong passion for the development and well-being of youth in our community. Maurice is a youth football coach here in Mustang and instills a positive attitude and strong character traits to those he coaches. Maurice is highly respected within his department, the city organization, and the community as well. Congratulations Sgt. Hawkins!
