Halloween is an evening where many families enjoy time together going door to door and walking through their neighborhoods. For years now children have made wonderful memories scaring friends and digging through piles of candy they received. In order to make this Halloween another fun memory, it is important that everyone plan for the weather and prepare to remain safe as they walk through their neighborhoods, especially as the sunlight disappears. It is always a good idea to include reflective material within the clothing/costumes your children wear, and it is important to have flashlights illuminated as you walk.
It is important to know that October is National Pedestrian Safety Month. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a much greater percentage of pedestrian fatalities occur during nighttime (78%) compared to daylight hours (19%) and dusk/dawn (4%). Please pay attention to your surroundings, and watch for traffic in all directions, as you take your family for an evening of fun.

The contractor completed paving operations for the SW 89th St. reconstruction project on Friday, October 4th and reopened SW 89th east of SH-4 to traffic early Saturday morning. Today, OG&E is on-site connecting the traffic signal to power. Once this connection is established, the traffic signal subcontractor will program the signal, expecting to have it operational by the end of the week. Over the next few days, the contractor will finish final grading and install sod in the exposed areas. Starting next Tuesday, October 15th, temporary traffic control measures will be replaced with permanent lane markings and signage, which is anticipated to take two days. The final project inspection is scheduled for October 16th. Please be mindful of changing traffic operations over the next two weeks and exercise caution when traveling through the area.
